The Rio Grande City Commission has appointed Sara Hernandez as the new assistant city manager. The decision was made during a special commission meeting on Wednesday, February 5th.
Hernandez has worked for the city for almost a decade. She was hired as director of the Tourism Department in mid 2015. In that role, she helped promote local events and attractions to boost tourism. Last year, she was named interim executive director of the Rio Grande City Economic Development Corporation (EDC), where she worked on business growth and economic projects.
Now, as assistant city manager, Hernandez will take on a bigger role in city operations, helping oversee departments and major projects.
Mayor Gilberto Falcon said Hernandez has shown great dedication to the city and will be a strong leader in her new position.
“Sara has worked hard to help our city grow,” Falcon said. “She understands what our community needs and has the experience to keep us moving forward. We are excited to see what she will accomplish.”
City Manager Gilberto Milan said Hernandez has proven her leadership skills and will be a great asset to the administration.
“She is committed to making Rio Grande City a better place,” Milan said. “She works well with city officials, business leaders, and the community, and I know she will continue making a positive impact.”
As assistant city manager, Hernandez will help manage city services, coordinate development projects, and support local businesses. She will also work closely with city leaders to improve services and address community needs.
Hernandez said she is grateful for the opportunity and looks forward to continuing her work for the city.
“I’m honored to step into this role,” Hernandez said. “Rio Grande City is my home, and I’m excited to keep working with our leaders and residents to make it even better.”
Her appointment is effective immediately.
