The Rio Grande City Parks and Recreation Department, in partnership with local organizations and community leaders, is excited to announce the "Trees for a Healthy Tomorrow" event, a community tree-planting initiative aimed at promoting environmental sustainability and public health. The event will take place on Saturday, January 25, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Miriam Vale Park, Rio Grande City, Texas.
This collaborative effort highlights Rio Grande City’s commitment to fostering a greener and healthier community. The event will include the planting of trees across Miriam Vale Park, environmental education sessions, and activities for all ages. Residents are encouraged to join us as we take steps toward a healthier future for our city and its residents.
“The ‘Trees for a Healthy Tomorrow’ initiative is a testament to the power of community action,” said Marco Treviño, Director of Rio Grande City Parks and Recreation. “By coming together to plant trees, we’re not only beautifying our parks but also contributing to cleaner air and a better environment for future generations.”
Mayor Gilberto Falcon emphasized the importance of such initiatives, stating, “Our city thrives when we invest in projects that benefit both our people and our planet. This tree-planting event is a symbol of growth, resilience, and hope for Rio Grande City. I look forward to seeing families and individuals come together to make a lasting impact.”
Participants will also have the opportunity to learn about the ecological benefits of trees, including their role in reducing carbon footprints, improving mental well-being, and enhancing urban spaces. Light refreshments will be provided, and all tools and materials will be supplied on-site.
