The City of Rio Grande City is excited to announce its annual 'Toys for Rio Kids' event, which will take place at Basilio Villarreal Municipal Park on Wednesday, December 18, starting at 6 p.m.
The event, hosted by the Rio Grande City Police Department and Crime Stoppers, invites all children under 12 to join in the holiday fun and receive a special gift while supplies last. Families can enjoy the festive atmosphere from the comfort of their cars in this cheerful drive-through event.
Gifts will be handed out by Blue Santa and his helpers, adding a festive touch to the evening. This year, the event received a significant boost from the Grupo Frontera, who made a very generous donation of boxes, and boxes of toys. Additionally, several city staff members recently went on a shopping spree to purchase toys, made possible by funds from generous sponsors and donors.
Mayor Gilberto Falcon praised the effort, saying, “This event reflects the true spirit of the holidays; community, generosity, and joy. I’m proud of our police department, Crime Stoppers, and all the partners who made this happen for our children.”
“This event is a wonderful way to spread holiday cheer and give back to the community,” added Ana Ramirez with the RGC Crime Stoppers. “We’re grateful for all the support that makes this possible.”
