Rio Grande City Kicks Off Holidays with Christmas Tree Lighting

Families and friends gathered on Thursday evening at the historic downtown Kiosk on Britton Avenue to celebrate Rio Grande City’s annual Christmas tree lighting. The event brought holiday cheer with live Christmas caroling, cheerleader performances, and a special visit from Santa Claus.

The big moment came when the city’s tall Christmas tree, covered in sparkling lights and ornaments, lit up the night sky. The crowd cheered as the tree came to life, marking the start of the holiday season in the community.

“This is such a special tradition for Rio Grande City,” said Mayor Gilberto Falcon. “Seeing everyone come together to celebrate brings so much joy. This tree is a symbol of hope and togetherness for all of us.”

The evening was filled with holiday music from local choirs, energetic routines from cheerleaders, and plenty of smiles as children lined up to meet Santa.

The event was organized by the city’s Main Street Program, and supported by several other city departments, to bring the community together and spread holiday cheer. As the night wrapped up, families stayed to enjoy the festive atmosphere, happy to kick off the season with their neighbors.
