Rio Grande City Fire Department Honored at Blue Mass Celebration


The Rio Grande City Fire Department was honored during the Blue Mass Celebration at Immaculate Conception Church, a ceremony that paid tribute to the selfless dedication of the city’s first responders. The event, served as a beacon of hope and gratitude for the men and women who commit their lives to protecting the community.


The Blue Mass, a tradition dating back to 1934, recognizes law enforcement officers, firefighters, and emergency medical personnel, acknowledging their courage and service. This year’s ceremony brought together city officials, residents, and members of the Rio Grande City Fire Department in a heartfelt show of appreciation.


“Our first responders embody the spirit of service and sacrifice,” said Mayor Gilberto Falcon. “The Blue Mass is a way for our community to come together in faith and honor those who put their lives on the line for us every day.”


Fire Chief Manuel Muniz also expressed his gratitude for the community’s support. “It’s truly humbling to be recognized in this way,” Muniz said. “Our department is committed to serving Rio Grande City, and events like the Blue Mass remind us of the importance of our role in keeping our community safe.”


The celebration concluded with a blessing for all first responders, reaffirming the community's support and appreciation for their commitment.
