At the regular City Commission meeting on October 23, Fire Chief Manuel Muniz announced several key personnel updates within the Rio Grande City Fire Department, including the addition of a new firefighter and the promotion of two long-serving administrators.
Jesus Rivas, with 19 years of service in the department, was promoted to Captain after holding the rank of Lieutenant for 17 years. In his new role, Rivas will continue to provide leadership during fire suppression operations while managing administrative responsibilities.
Pedro Morin, who has been with the department for nearly a decade, was promoted earlier this month to Assistant Fire Chief. He previously served as Captain for close to two years. Both men bring invaluable experience and dedication to their new roles, bolstering the department’s leadership.
“These men have shown their unwavering commitment to our department and community,” said Fire Chief Manuel Muniz. “Their combined expertise, both on the ground and administratively, strengthens our ability to respond effectively and grow as a team.”
Additionally, Devin Diaz, a long-standing volunteer firefighter, was promoted to a full-time position. Diaz now joins the department as a fully trained firefighter, bringing years of volunteer experience to his new role. He is eager to expand his skills with advanced field training, aligning with the department’s ongoing commitment to growth and preparedness.
The City Commission and Rio Grande City Fire Department celebrate these advancements, looking forward to the continued dedication and leadership of their newly promoted team members.
