Cantu’s career in the Planning Department spans over 17 years, during which he has been instrumental in various projects aimed at the city’s development and growth. His tenure has been marked by a commitment to improving urban planning and ensuring sustainable development for the residents of Rio Grande City.

“We are thrilled to have Antonio Cantu as our new Planning Director,” said Mayor Gilberto Falcon. “His years of service and dedication to the city make him the ideal candidate to lead our planning efforts. We look forward to seeing his vision for the future of Rio Grande City come to fruition.”

Cantu’s appointment follows the promotion of former Planning Director Gilberto Milan to Interim City Manager. The city administration expressed confidence in Cantu’s ability to continue the progress made under Milan’s leadership and to bring fresh ideas to the planning department.

Cantu's new role involves overseeing the planning and zoning activities of the city, working on long-term urban development plans, and engaging with the community to address their concerns and aspirations for the city's future.
