RGR Hospital to Host Free Heartburn Informational Seminar, Feb. 20


Rio Grande Regional Hospital is set to host a Heartburn seminar on Thursday, February 20, at the hospital's classrooms 1A&B, starting at 6:00 pm.

"Do you experience heartburn, nausea or discomfort after eating certain foods? If so, we invite you to join us at a free informational seminar with Dr. Angel Tamez, General Surgeon and Medical Director of Trauma Services at Rio Grande Regional Hospital," reads a statement posted on the event's Facebook page.

Dr. Tamez will explain the different causes and treatment options available for Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD). For more information, please call 956.992.0404.

GERD, also known as acid reflux, is a long-term condition in which stomach contents rise up into the esophagus, resulting in either symptoms or complications. Symptoms include the taste of acid in the back of the mouth, heartburn, bad breath, chest pain, regurgitation, breathing problems, and wearing away of the teeth. Complications include esophagitis, esophageal stricture, and Barrett's esophagus.
