According to a press release from the Rio Grande City CISD, the district's Bilingual/ESL program is set to host a night of family fun at the Fort Ringgold Auditorium this Thursday.
Latin Grammy winner 123 Andrés will be offering a concert to students and their families on Thursday, February 7, starting at 6:30PM in the RGCCISD Auditorium. "Please join us and get ready to sing, dance, jump, and learn! We look forward to seeing you there," reads a statement from the district.
According to the artist's official website Andrés and Christina, better known as 123 Andrés, are the new face of Latinx music for families in the US and Latin America. They are known for bringing joyful sounds, passion for bilingualism and a high-energy love of music that gets kids singing and dancing in Spanish and English. Andrés grew up in Bogotá, Colombia, and learned how to play the guitar from his father at an early age. He had his first studio experience at age 8, and from there he went on to earn a Doctorate in music and won the National Composition Contest in Colombia for one of his early songs. Christina grew up in the Midwest in a Spanish-speaking immigrant family from Colombia. Her love for the stage started when her mom signed her up for theater and dance as a child. After college she worked in the classroom as a public school teacher, and received a Masters in Education. When she joined 123 Andrés, she found her calling teaching through music. Their most recent album is La luna, a collection of lullabies in Spanish. Before that, their dual-language album Arriba Abajo won the Latin Grammy for Best Children’s Album in 2016 as well as the Parent’s Choice Gold Award. Their Latin-Grammy nominated debut album, ¡Uno, Dos, Tres Andrés en español y en inglés!, was hailed by the Boston Globe: “…Joyous new album… hopscotches around the Spanish-speaking world, seamlessly switching from bachata and bolero to mariachi and vallenato.”
