The City of Rio Grande, and the United Way of South Texas organization have partnered up to provide free tax preparation assistance to local families who earned less than $54,000 in 2018. These services will be provided by trained volunteers at Rio Grande City Hall every Monday, and Wednesday. Volunteers are now available every Monday and Wednesday at City Hall located at 5332 E. Hwy 83 in Rio Grande City, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Residents interested in taking advantage of these free services are encouraged to bring along important tax documents including; Valid identification, Social Security Cards for all household members, Forms W-2, W-2G, 1099-R, from all employers, Interest and dividend statements from banks (Form 1099), A copy of last year's tax return if available, Bank Routing Numbers and Account Numbers for Direct Deposit, Total paid for a day care provider and the day care provider's tax identifying number. To file taxes electronically on a married couple filing joint tax return, both spouses must be present to sign the required forms.
