Long Awaited Rio Grande City FM 755 Realignment Set to Open Tomorrow

According to officials from the Texas Department of Transportation, the highly anticipated FM 755 realignment road in Rio Grande City is set to open to the public on Friday morning, June 8, following a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony.

After being under construction for almost 3 years, the road now connects U.S. HWY 83 to FM 755, not too far from Rio Grande City High School. "This Project is intended to provide relief to the congested area in downtown Rio Grande City," said TxDOT Pharr District Engineer Pedro R. Alvarez during a presentation at City Hall earlier this year. "It also will facilitate the movement of international traffic from the port of entry heading North."

"Another related project that is being developed by the City of Rio Grande City and the RGC Economic Development Corp. is the realignment of access to the port of entry," added Alvarez. "This project will connect to the current FM 755 construction project by the Wal-Mart, and it will go back towards the port of entry. This project will also help facilitate the movement of people and goods as they cross the international bridge, and connect to U.S. Hwy 83 where they could either head North, East or West.

According to TxDOT, the FM 755 realignment project is just part of a larger proposed project that will be constructed in three phases as traffic volumes increase and funding becomes available. This project involves constructing a four-lane divided rural highway with a grass median that will eventually lead from FM 755 to US HWY 83 approximately 1 miles West of Loma Blanca Rd, in Roma, Texas.
