Starr County Sheriff’s Deputy Arturo Escoto Jr., who was seriously injured in an unfortunate auto mishap last month, reports to be in recovery and in good spirits.
“On Sunday May 27 while in a foot pursuit across High Way 83 I was struck by a moving vehicle, suffering two broken legs,” said Escoto. “I would just like to take the time to thank everyone for all the well-wishes. I'm truly grateful to be able to work for such a supportive community. I would just like to inform everyone that I am already on the road to recovery and that although it may take months; I will return to serve and protect the community of Starr County.”
Additionally, Escoto expressed his gratitude to his fellow officers, first responders and caretakers. “I'd like to thank all the thin blue line family for the great support during these past few days, it's a privilege to be able to serve Starr County next to all of you. I'm so thankful to the McAllen Medical Center and to all their staff for the excellent treatment during my stay. Thank you to all my friends and family for being there for me when I needed them. Escoto also credits his faith as a source of strength and endurance. “Most of all I'd like to thank God for protecting me and giving me the opportunity to continue doing what I love.”
According to media reports, Escoto was assisting police as they were serving a warrant. At the scene, a suspect ran from police and onto the highway. Escoto ran after the suspect and was hit by a truck. The suspect was later arrested at the scene.
